PREAMBLE
This innovative endeavor — a compendium of the near-entirety of the painter Stanford Brent's oeuvre — is unusual in its breadth and complexity. While his work speaks for itself, this project, in the interest of further articulating Brent's vision, is organized into the following overarching parts:
PART I. The first is the artist's relatively succinct website. It includes a selection of works; a short biography; an artist statement; résumé; and various press-related materials.
Then, in the Comprehensive Archive section, the viewer discovers an extensive chronological survey, divided into a number of artistic periods. They stretch from earlier days as an art major in college; to more advanced training in art school; and, eventually, toward his mature work. There is also a substantial section dedicated entirely to Brent's notebooks: herein, the viewer finds a wide range of images and media — from pencil sketches to small, fully-realized paintings on paper.
PART II. Lastly, there is a historical section on the artist's ancestry and family, featuring an unprecedented re-uniting of the Old Masters art collection of his great-grandfather, Leopold Koppel, an exceptionally prominent figure in pre-WWII Berlin.
